After Spring Break
Going to Mississippi was a really great experience. I don't think people realize how much more work there needs to be done in the places that Hurricane Katrina hit. Most people have forgotten by now or think that everything has been taken care of. It was an eye opening experience to see houses still untouched since they were destroyed by the hurricane. But it was also amazing to see how much hope the people I met still had even though they had lost almost everything in the storm. When someone asked if they were bitter or angry because it had occurred, they replied that no, they were not. They said they just took the storm as a sign they needed to re-evaluate their lives and then they picked up and moved on. It was also amazing to meet people who devoted their lives to helping these people who had been through the hurricane. This one man we met had left his job and moved to Mississippi to work as a volunteer and help rebuild. He has been helping for over a year now. We put in a lot of hard work, but it was all worth it. I really would like another chance to go down there and help out again.
